Breath as Relational Doorway

I find that there is a particular exhaustion that comes from doing all the right things.

The yoga, the therapy, the breathwork, the retreats. And still the material loops - the worthiness wounds, the fears around visibility and intimacy. The old contractions that return, wearing slightly different clothes.

What follows the looping is often frustration, shame, and despair. And lurking in that despair is a sticky belief that "I shouldn't still feel this way."

But the looping is not failure, it is samsara, the turning wheel of conditioned experience built from samskaras with ancestral roots so deep they have become culture itself. The belief that we are separate and that we must earn our belonging.

This wound is not personal, it is the wound we were born into - and it loops because it has never been met with what it actually needs.

The curated breath changes this.

When we intentionally shape the breath, we change reality - a literal material shift, in the body, in the nervous system, in the relational field between us.

The curated breath brings presence to the looping. It widens the aperture until we can see the larger picture, how this is not pathology but design. How the body, given the right conditions, already knows the way back to wholeness.

One breath is the doorway into the larger system, both in the node and in the web.

Apprentice to the Breath is an eleven-month journey for practitioners ready to work at that threshold.

Therapists, somatic workers, breathworkers...those of us who have done enough of our own work to know that technique alone doesn't reach the place we're trying to reach.

This apprenticeship is built on a single premise - that breath is not a tool, it is a teacher, a guide, a companion. It is the space in which everything unfolds.

And that the practitioner who understands this is organized around something larger than method, the way a mother tree is woven into a forest, drawing from layers of support, held by a web that extends in every direction.

Our nervous system becomes the instrument; our own looping material becomes the map. The sangha-body of the apprenticeship, the relational field we practice inside, becomes the place where it all actually happens.

This work doesn't happen in the individual, it happens between, in relationship. In the felt experience of not being alone.

You will leave with a felt relationship to breath as teacher - as the precious life force that both animates us and transforms suffering.

You will leave with more of yourself, reflected back through eleven months of genuine relationship.

You will leave with the capacity to feel the looping, in yourself, in eachother, and to touch into what lives beneath it.

To meet it with abiding presence, exquisite tenderness and the spacious allowing that trusts the body to lead the way home.

The apprenticeship is multi-layered:

There is a weekly practice on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays on zoom (7:30-8AM EST). These practices are not optional like in past apprenticeships. Certainly an occasional missed practice is fine but attending these practices is central to the arc of the year. The practices are recorded.

Warm Welcome,

My name is Alicia. I have been consciously practicing the breath for 30 years in my personal and professional practice as a psychotherapist, yoga therapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. I have used it as a tool to support people with symptom mitigation and root level healing.

I work with people as multidimensional beings to support liberation as a practice of unraveling our conditioning.

I combine Somatic Experiencing with breathwork to build a bridge between the subconscious and conscious mind - the implicit and the explicit - allowing longstanding patterns to emerge and be supported, held and felt in a new way - in relationship with the loving witness and the vast web of relations.

My work emerges from the intersection of science and spirituality as I weave modern science with ancient practices to create 30 minute daily practices that draw from quantum physics, Vedic philosophy, Chinese medicine, Buddhism and my direct experience with trees, fungi, bull frogs, and many other sentient beings that walk my path with me.

I provide somatic work (with and without psychedelics) and individualized breath sessions to harness the breath for personal and collective liberation.

I am committed to regenerative practices, local community resiliency and loving ourselves and each other back to wholeness as an act of collective liberation.

Travis comes to this work through the body's earliest language - the period before words, before explicit memory, before the self had a name for itself.

"My work emerges from somatic experiencing, pre-and perinatal healing, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, and PSIP facilitation. What threads through all of it is a single orienting question: what did I learn about relationship, safety and connection in the earliest years of life, before I even had words to describe it?

Pre-and perinatal work understands that the arc from conception through birth is foundational. The patterns laid down in those earliest months continue to shape how we move toward connection, how we respond to threat, and how we breathe. Biodynamic craniosacral therapy listens for the body's subtle rhythms. Somatic experiencing tracks and gently completes the survival responses that never finished - the ones still living in tissue, still organizing breath.

Merging my work with the breath makes sense as the breath is the ultimate relational doorway."

"Alicia is a treasure among treasures. I feel incredibly grateful to have found her. She brings breadth and depth to her teachings, drawing from an impressive array of traditions and approaches including Yoga, Qigong, Somatic Experiencing, and Parts Work, to name a few. I am often astounded by her knowledge, and wisdom in drawing upon that knowledge. How can one person hold so much? Alicia's background as a Trauma Therapist combined with her profound empathy allows her to bring highly skilled safety and attunement to the Breathwork Practices. She creates a container that allows for grounded trust, expansion and transformation, a rare combination. I consider it to be a real privilege to be one of Alicia's students and a member of her Breathwork Sangha."

Sara Silvia, Therapist

"I can’t say enough about Alicia and about this program. To share this container and community is so incredibly special and I am so grateful! The apprenticeship is full of practical knowledge that I know I can take with me into not only my personal practice, but my practice as a therapist as well. Knowledge of the breath and regular practice has made me a better clinician, a better partner, and a more connected human. This program has been a breath of fresh air that I didn’t even know I needed. Thank you Alicia!"

Nicole Sparrow, Therapist, Reiki Master

"I don't think anything has been as impactful for my overall well being...like ever. Alicia's Breathwork Apprenticeship and the daily Breathwork practices have helped me better connect with myself and others. It's inspired me to work differently with my clients and students and honestly, Alicia is just really lovely to sit and listen to."

Carrie Dennison, Yoga Teacher Trainer and Rieki Master

"Alicia's Breathwork Apprenticeship has been revolutionary for me both professionally and personally. She has helped me safely explore and inhabit my body in a completely new way by helping me tap into our body's most powerful tool, the breath. Her incredible wisdom and tender guidance is soul quenching. It is so apparent that she takes incredible care when curating this apprenticeship. Her approach is gentle, thoughtful and trauma informed. It has been an honor to sit and breathe, laugh, cry and hold joy and grief alongside so many other beautiful humans during these last 6 months. I cannot recommend it enough!"

Amanda Phelan, LCSW-C

"I have been breathing with Alicia for 15 years a my partner. The Apprenticeship has helped me settle in a new and deeper way. It's one thing to be mindful, it's another to know how to breathe functionally and use the breath to change the way I am feeling. This work is profound. Coming into deep relationship with my breath has been so incredibly useful. It has been life changing on every level."

Travis Wanner, SEP, Somatic Coach, PSIP Facilitator, Pre and Perinatal Guide

"Alicia's daily breathwork and apprenticeship program has absolutely transformed my overall health and wellness. Thanks to these last six months, I now have a rich toolkit of breaths available when I'm fatigued, anxious, or need to work out the stiffness in my joints. More than that, though, I also have a community and a sense of belonging.

I have returned to my natural state of being thanks to this practice of attuning to my breath!"

Safrianna Loughna, LCPC

"I feel blessed to have been part of daily breath work practice with Alicia for the past year. It’s a unique experience to be gently and expertly guided into the body, accompanied by breath and in concert with others. I would call it the ultimate nervous system daily tune up, with the benefits that last throughout the day. I loved the structure of a daily routine, with flexibility built in to breathe in a way that suits my needs. Alicia is a gifted teacher with a big heart, with years of practice and ages of wisdom to share."

*Five 10 hour experiential lectures in person, Frederick. MD

*An Empathy Partner to walk with you through the journey

The Empathy Partner’s role is one of non-judgement and empathy. It is not that of a cheerleader nor is it a role of holding anyone accountable. It’s more a mirror, an empathic witness as we move through the work together. Daily practice can bring up A LOT. Meeting our stuff day in and day out is hard and rewarding. The partner is there to reflect back your process no matter what it is...from unbearable grief to chronic illness to insomnia to patterns of addiction to bouts of the “fuck its”, and maybe even some joy and bliss. The vast human experience is welcome in all of its complexity and nuance.

*Monthly sangha (sacred community) Quaker shares first Saturdays 8:30 - 9 AM EST after RAINN practice.

*Daily live practices on zoom (and recordings) included.
